Ryanair is offering eight "rescue flights" to passengers impacted by the closure of Heathrow Airport.

Ryanair's website will open for reservations for the eight flights, which include two from Dublin to Stansted and two from Stansted to Dublin on Friday and Saturday. "Ryanair, Europe's No. 1 airline, added up to eight rescue flights between Dublin and London Stansted, four on Friday and four on Saturday, to rescue passengers affected by today's Heathrow closure," a Ryanair representative stated.

The London Heathrow and Dublin Airport flights have all been cancelled. The busiest airport in Europe, Heathrow, is closed after a significant fire at the nearby North Hyde Electricity Substation caused power to be cut off overnight.

Up to 120 flights were forced to divert midair to various airports across the UK and some in Europe, including Shannon Airport, and hundreds of flights in and out have been cancelled. Graeme McQueen, DAA's media relations manager, says passengers should expect disruptions as a result of the cancellations.

He told RTE Radio 1: "It's a busy morning on the London routes front. British Airways and Aer Lingus, the two airlines that operate flights between Dublin and London Heathrow, have cancelled all flights to London Heathrow, at least until mid-afternoon. That's roughly 34 flights, with 17 arriving and 17 departing on a normal Friday between London Heathrow and Dublin. In truth, the majority of those flights—possibly all of them—aren't going to take off or arrive in Dublin.

Today, a total of 34 flights have been cancelled. Following Heathrow Airport's closure due to a power outage, Dublin Airport announced that all flights between Dublin Airport and London Heathrow were postponed until at least mid-afternoon  (Friday). 34 flights (17 inbound and 17 outgoing) were planned between Dublin Airport and Heathrow.

The shutdown will have a "significant impact," according to British Airways, which, along with Aer Lingus, operates Heathrow flights from Dublin Airport. They stated: "This will clearly have a significant impact on our operation and our customers and we're working as quickly as possible to update them on their travel options for the next 24 hours and beyond."
