Eamon Ryan's inaction on the Dublin Airport Cap has left Irish customers with few options.

To address the backlog of packages at the blocked Holyhead Ferry Port in Wales, Ryanair today (Monday, December 16) applauded the tardy intervention of failed Green Minister Eamon Ryan to suspend driver requirements. The closure of Holyhead serves as a reminder of Ireland's precarious transport infrastructure and how easily natural disasters can interfere with it.

Unfortunately, Eamon Ryan's inaction on the Dublin Airport Cap has left Irish customers with few options in the lead-up to Christmas. This year, there are 220,000 fewer seats available to and from Dublin, but there are 50,000 more seats available in Belfast.

This Dublin Airport Cap may have been eliminated this winter if Eamon Ryan had sent a Direction Letter to the IAA, and Ryanair and other airlines would have kept tickets cheaper this Christmas by adding 220,000 seats to/from Dublin Airport.

As of right now, Ryanair's warning about £500 one-way airfare has come to pass. Prices for flights from London to Dublin throughout the weekend of Friday, December 20 to Monday, December 23 are rapidly increasing, and some flights from Gatwick and Stansted to Dublin on Friday, December 20 have now approached £500.

The inaction of Green Minister Eamon Ryan over the Dublin Airport Cap demonstrates the need for swift legislation by the incoming government to remove this cap.

The island of Ireland is located on the edge of Europe. We require numerous air links to and from our main airport in Dublin, as well as numerous boat routes to and from the island.

Dublin spent more than €200 million building a second runway, increasing the runway's passenger capacity to 60 meters.

However, a 32 million passenger cap has been permitted to prevent airlines from adding additional flights this Christmas, which would have increased capacity and kept air fares down under the failed leadership of Green Minister Eamon Ryan.

Instead, these additional flights have been sent to Belfast and other airports throughout Europe while Eamon Ryan was hesitating. As a result, travellers heading back to Dublin this Christmas are paying the highest airfares ever, with some flights now costing more than £500 one way.

Another illustration of Green Transport Minister Eamon Ryan's utter failure to provide Ireland with transport solutions during the previous five years is these exorbitant tariffs and fewer flights.

In order for Dublin and Irish airlines to resume expanding traffic, tourism, and employment on the island of Ireland, Ryanair urges the new government to make sure that this ridiculous airport cap is removed.
