It occurs as the United Kingdom prepares for a storm of snow and ice that may also disrupt aviation travel.

This "disruptive" cold snap, triggered by a rush of Arctic air, is expected to cause travel chaos and winter hazards. Forecasters recently named Storm Bert on Thursday, and it is expected to bring gale-force winds. Several yellow warnings have already been issued, and a new amber warning for snow and ice was issued today.
As the cold front moves in, Jet2, which offers flights from 13 UK airports, including Glasgow and Edinburgh, stated that its operations team is "continually monitoring the UK forecast" to provide the most recent information on arrivals and departures.
It stated: "We want to run all of our flights on time as normal, but if the weather worsens, there might be some disruptions. We'll send you an email and an SMS if your flight is delayed."
Passengers will be informed of any possible disruptions. Ryanair, which also offers flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh, advised users to check their Ryanair app for the most recent flight information.

"Any inconvenience caused to passengers by these weather conditions, which are outside of Ryanair’s control," the low-cost airline noted, adding that the weather affects "all airlines."
Ice, in particular, can negatively impact runways and ground equipment and pose major problems for aeroplanes. Aircraft can malfunction due to ice buildup in their wheel wells, brake systems, and flap hinges. Ice on taxiways and runways can also cause braking issues.
From as far north as Talmine in the Highlands to as far south as Stoke-on-Trent in England, a yellow weather warning for snow, rain, and ice is in effect throughout the United Kingdom. It follows the national forecaster's publication of two distinct alerts on Wednesday, November 20: snow and ice.
