American Airlines plans to launch a new Embraer E170 service between Tampico, Mexico and Dallas/Fort Worth.

This Thursday, American Airlines declared that it would launch a new route to Mexico beginning in the first quarter of the next year.

Envoy Air will fly the Embraer E170 on these trips under the American Eagle regional brand. Reservations will start on Monday.

On March 5, 2025, American Airlines will begin direct flights from its primary hub at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Tampico International Airport (TAM), Mexico, according to WFAA. Starting Thursday, September 16th, tickets will be available for the flight.

FlightAware indicates that there are flights from DFW to TAM operated by American, United Airlines, Mesa Airlines, and Viva Aerobus. But each of these flights has a stopover; none of them are direct. Viva Aerobus makes a stop at Monterrey International Airport (MTY), and US carriers pass through Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

In a statement, Jim Moses, Senior Vice President of DFW Operations for American Airlines, said:

"We are eager to keep growing our network of over 230 global destinations that we service straight out of DFW. Being the biggest American airline in Mexico and providing direct access for family, business, and leisure travel across the nation makes American proud.
Tampico will rank as American Airlines' 29th Mexican destination, giving them the most flights and destinations of any US airline. The company claims that in addition to the current "815 weekly flights to the country next year," the destination will see additional flights.

There can be up to 65 passengers on the E170 regional jet.

Tampico will bring the airline's overall number of destinations to 31 with its addition. Tulum and Veracruz, two other Mexican locations, were added earlier in the year.

For US airlines, Mexico represents a sizable leisure market. In 2023, American Airlines performed 63,268 trips back and forth between Mexico, averaging 1,216 weekly flights, according to statistics from aviation analytics company Cirium. Over 10.11 billion available seat miles (ASMs) had been flown by the airline between Mexico and the US by the conclusion of the year, carrying 9.74 million passengers.
