The top airline in Europe, Ryanair, apologised to its customers today, August 15, for the excessive delays and cancellations at Palma de Mallorca. This was due to the absurd decision made by Spanish Air Traffic Control (ATC) to prevent inbound aircraft from landing this morning due to "weather."

This decision is absurd because there were no weather-related problems in Palma this morning, as evidenced by the fact that flights out of Palma were permitted to proceed as usual.

Travellers were free to depart from Palma de Mallorca, but vacationers were not permitted to arrive.

Ryanair has called on the Spanish Minister of Transport to clarify why Palma de Mallorca was closed to arriving passengers owing to fictitious weather concerns, after failing to reach the Head of Spanish ATC this morning to overturn this absurd decision.

Neal McMahon, Chief Operations Officer of Ryanair, stated:

This is just one more instance of the appalling work that Air Traffic Control has been doing this summer, which has repeatedly and needlessly disrupted travellers. Ryanair urges the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to revamp the dysfunctional ATC services once more.
