Emirates (EK, Dubai International) has declared that it has placed a firm order for five more Boeing 777-200 freighters. Delivery of these aircraft is expected to occur by 2026. The capacity of Emirates SkyCargo will be greatly increased by this order.
The new order complements the five undelivered B777-200Fs Emirates ordered in 2022, which are expected to arrive between 2024 and 2025. These additions will increase Emirates' dedicated freighter fleet to 17 aircraft, reflecting the airline's commitment to expanding its cargo operations.
Currently, Emirates operates eleven B777-200Fs. In addition to these, the airline wet-leases three Boeing 747 freighters from Aerotranscargo (F5, Chisinau International), including one B747-400(BCF), one B747-400(BDSF), and one B747-400FSCD. Emirates plans to retain these wet-leased B747s even as its own cargo fleet grows.

The airline also has an ongoing conversion order for ten of its B777-300(ER) aircraft with Israel Aerospace Industries, although none of these have yet entered the Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) conversion process.
Emirates has confirmed that some of the newly ordered B777-200Fs will replace existing aircraft of the same type, ensuring a mix of fleet renewal and expansion. This approach is part of a broader strategy to maintain a modern and efficient fleet.

"The next phase of our strategy will include a full assessment for our future freighter fleet, reviewing all aircraft options to ensure we are best equipped to respond to the evolving demands of the market," stated Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates. He emphasized the airline's confidence in the crucial role of airfreight and Emirates SkyCargo in global trade.
Looking ahead, Emirates has indicated it is considering orders for new-generation widebody freighters, including the Airbus A350Fs or the Boeing 777-8Fs, by 2027. This decision will be part of a strategic review to optimize their future freighter fleet in response to market demands.
The firm order for additional Boeing 777-200Fs underscores Emirates' commitment to strengthening its cargo operations and supporting global trade through Emirates SkyCargo. As the airline continues to expand and modernize its fleet, it aims to remain at the forefront of the airfreight industry, adapting to the evolving needs of the market while maintaining robust operational capabilities.
