The Guardia Civil arrested an Italian at Ibiza airport on Ryanair flight FR8335 due to a bomb threat.

Just before his aircraft (Ryanair FR8335) took off for Bergamo on Thursday, the detainee who the Guardia Civil alleged to be drunk—said that he was carrying an explosive device.

The airplane was halted on the runway and the appropriate process was initiated. Members of the Special Explosives Disposal Group (GEDEX) examined the aircraft and determined that there was no bomb on board before the Guardia Civil arrived on the site.

Due to a bomb hoax, all airport operations at Ibiza were suspended, and no planes were able to take off or land starting at 15:45 for more than an hour. Three planes in all were diverted to Palma airport, according to confirmation provided to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera by the Spanish airport administration, AENA.

These were flights from Bologna, London, and Bilbao that were unable to arrive in Ibiza at the appointed time because of the event. The bomb threat resulted in the deactivation of the security procedure at 16:45, and flights were delayed throughout afternoon.

With regard to flight FR8335 from Ibiza to Milan Bergamo on Thursday afternoon, Ryanair has apologized for "any inconvenience" caused by the bogus bomb threat that resulted in a 45-minute airline traffic stoppage at Ibiza airport. Today, the airline issued a statement in which it made it clear that the crew was informed "prior to departure" of the plane about a fictitious security threat, and that passengers disembarked and local authorities conducted a "routine security check" before approving the plane's return to service in compliance with industry standards. According to the airline, there was a "brief but unavoidable delay" before the aircraft left for Milan Bergamo in the evening.

The biggest low-cost airline in Europe, Ryanair, stated earlier this week that a customer became unwell on Tuesday, forcing an early morning flight from Dublin to Palma to be rerouted to Bordeaux. "This flight from Dublin to Palma de Mallorca diverted to Bordeaux when a passenger became ill on board," the airline informed the Bulletin. After a brief delay, the aircraft was greeted by medics upon arrival at Bordeaux Airport, and the passenger was offloaded before the flight proceeded to Palma de Mallorca.
