Aer Lingus Flight to Leeds U-Turns to Dublin Due to a Landing Gear Issue

Due to a problem with its landing gear on Sunday, an Aer Lingus flight that was initially scheduled to arrive in Leeds had to do a U-turn and return to Dublin Airport.

After making this finding, the ATR crew quickly returned to the Irish airport.

The regular scheduled flight EI3394 operated by Aer Lingus connects Leeds and Dublin Airport.

The incident's impacted rotation is identified as EI-HDI.

Planespotters.net data indicates that EI-HDI, an ATR 72-600, is 10.9 years old and was delivered to Emerald Airlines, Aer Lingus Regional's operator, in July 2022.

Furthermore, Aer Lingus Regional owns and operates 17 ATR 72-600s, of which 15 are in use and two are parked.

The aircraft's average age is 8.8 years old.

On March 17, at 1840 local time, EI3394 took off from Dublin and made its first ascent towards Leeds Bradford Airport.

A short time after takeoff, the crew decided to return to DUB due to an issue with the aircraft.

The aircraft safely made it to the ground at roughly 1907 local time, with no further incidents reported.

The Current Issue

According to @Shauns_Aviation on X, a landing gear problem was the cause of the return to Dublin rather than Leeds.

He reports that the crew were unable to retract the landing gear after takeoff.

Following it’s arrival, engineers met the aircraft on stand to begin the process of maintenance straight away.
