Dublin Airport saw the departure of flight #EI166 to London Heathrow on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 13:25 GMT.
After taking off from runway 10, the A320 (registration EI-DEM) ascended to 29,000 feet over the Irish Sea and entered UK airspace.
However, according to Shauns_ Aviation 40 minutes into the flight, the crew reported "fumes" to ATC.
Only 42 minutes after takeoff, the pilots returned to Dublin and landed on the same runway after informing ATC that they thought the problem was with the engines.

Following this incident, it appears that the flight crew as well as at least a few passengers received medical attention in a hospital.
The six crew members and the passengers were "poisoned today by toxic fume," according to an Aer Lingus captain.
According to reports, the pilot encountered this situation on June 5, 2023, and while serving as captain on an Aer Lingus flight, he contracted a toxic air poisoning.
According to him, there is a genuine and present risk of "Aerotoxic Syndrome," or toxic fume poisoning, while flying. It happens when heated aviation fluids, such as engine oil, contaminate the air supply.
