A Frontier aircraft and an American Airlines Boeing 777 collided in Miami.

At Miami International Airport on March 8, 2024, an American Airlines Boeing 777 and a Frontier Airlines Airbus A320 family aircraft collided.

The Boeing 777-200 operated by American Airlines, registered N736AT, was scheduled to take off as flight AA929, travelling to Sao Paulo.

Nevertheless, the B777 struck the tail of a parked Frontier Airlines Airbus A320/321 as it was taxiing out of the Miami gate.

Online videos appear to show the American B777 making contact with the Frontier aircraft's tail during pushback. The aircraft is parked.

Both the Airbus's tailfin and the B777's left horizontal stabiliser suffered significant damage. The two aircraft were decommissioned.

No one was injured in the incident and passengers on the American Airlines flight disembarked normally, while the aircraft was grounded for inspection by maintenance crews.

While the exact Frontier aircraft model (A320 or A321) involved hasn’t been confirmed yet, the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

In a statement, American Airlines acknowledged the incident stating, “During pushback from the gate in Miami (MIA), the wing tip of American Airlines flight 929 with service from MIA to São Paulo (GRU) made contact with the tail of a parked aircraft. Customers deplaned normally and the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this caused.”

Frontier Airlines also issued a statement confirming the incident and that their passengers were being re-accommodated.
