At the Dubai Airshow on November 15, 2023, Ethiopian Airlines inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for 11 more Airbus A350-900s.
The Ethiopian flag carrier now has 33 A350s total, including four A350-1000s, thanks to the commitment to the extra aircraft.
With the signing of the MoU, Ethiopian Airlines—which now has a fleet of 20 A350-900s—will become the largest A350 customer in Africa.
"We are thrilled to make this pledge for eleven Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Being a customer-focused airline, we are especially happy about this fleet since it provides passengers with additional comfort thanks to amenities like ambient lighting and the quietest cabin in its class.
Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew stated in a press release, "We are eager to increase the size of our fleet and add the newest technology aircraft to provide our esteemed passengers with a convenient and memorable onboard experience."
Ethiopian Airlines is a prime example of how to take advantage of the exceptional value of the A350 for long-haul travel, capitalizing on Ethiopia's strategic location as the country that provides the fastest connections between China and Latin America, according to Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus. We are thrilled to expand Ethiopian Airlines' fleet and uphold the wonderful rapport we have developed together in the process.
The day after Ethiopia declared that it would buy up to 67 new Boeing aircraft, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed.
