Emirates wants to treble its current capacity over the next ten years, but the airline isn't sure whether to go with Boeing freighters or buy an Airbus model.

The flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates is reportedly comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the Airbus A350F and the Boeing 777-8 freighter, according to Bloomberg.

Nabil Sultan, the Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates, told the news organization during a conference for the sector in Singapore that a decision might not be made for another four years.

"Hopefully by 2027, we will evaluate whether we require a different mix to what we have already," Sultan stated about the carrier.

Converting some of the fleet's Boeing 777-300ERs from commercial to cargo aircraft will allow for even more capacity expansion.

Sultan added that following the COVID-19 pandemic, Emirates SkyCargo was noticing an increase in demand for its services.

According to Sultan, "We're probably at a much more stable stage now," Bloomberg News said. "The point of bottoming out has gone. There has been steady expansion.

As per ch-aviation.com, Emirates is presently awaiting the delivery of five further 777-200s to expand its fleet to eleven aircraft. Emirates also declared the arrival of two further Boeing 747-Fs under wet lease in May 2023.

With the help of its freighter conversion program and announced orders, Emirates Cargo Division expects to add 15 more freighters to its fleet overall.
