Although its future fleet plans for its Boeing 777X and Airbus A380 have already been well established over the week After several days of talks, Dubai-based Emirates jumped in with an eleventh-hour deal with Airbus for 15 A350-900s, increasing its backlog to 65 Airbus A350 aircraft.
The news was mostly unnoticed since CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum of Emirates and Airbus decided without hosting a formal signing ceremony to mark the milestone. Instead, they released a brief statement online.
We are happy to report that we have placed more orders for the A350-900, which will diversify our fleet. Our A350s will be put to use in a variety of new markets, including long-haul flights from Dubai that can take up to 15 hours to complete.
