During a rough landing at an airport in Brazil, an Azul Airlines ATR 72-600 aircraft experienced a tail strike.
The turboprop aircraft took off from Aracaju Santa Maria Airport (AJU) on November 22, 2023, shortly before 8:40 am local time, bound for Recife-Guararapes International Airport (REC), according to Flightradar24.
The Azul flight looked stable as it touched down just after ten in the morning, but as it got closer to the runway, the ATR began to shake, putting too much weight in the back of the aircraft.
Video of the event, which happened on runway 18 at REC, was circulated on social media.

Though there were several obvious impact-related markings, photos of the aircraft's underside revealed little damage.
Azul Airlines stressed that the "equipment stopped normally and all customers subsequently disembarked in complete safety and without any complications"
The aircraft, registered PR-AKO, is scheduled to take off from REC at 12:45 p.m. local time on November 23, 2023, and land at Mossoro Airport (MVF).
Among the four aircraft flown by Azul Airlines, PR-AKO is the only one with a special exterior Brazilian flag livery. The Airbus A330-200, the Embraer E190, and the A321neo are the other three aircraft.
The planemaker states that the ATR 72-600 is normally equipped with 44 to 78 seats.
