American Airlines Sued For 'Losing' Two Kids

American Airlines has responded to allegations that it caused the deaths of two children that happened overnight at an airport in the previous year. The carrier allegedly placed Amber Vencill's two unattended sons in a "cold room akin to a jail cell" for the night, according to a lawsuit the mother of Florida filed last month.

Since the youngsters were without their cell phones during the incident, Vencill was unable to get in touch with them. The mother supposedly didn't know her sons had nothing to eat or drink that night until several hours had gone by when she was finally able to talk to them.

Information on the situation

After the event in July 2022, Vencill filed a lawsuit in New York on October 31 against the Fort Worth, Texas-based airline, according to ABC News. Her partner's family was hosting her sons, ages 10 and 12, while they were on a trip from Missouri to Syracuse, New York.

Vencill apparently paid $150 for the carrier's unaccompanied minor service, which is necessary for kids under the age of 14, in accordance with American policy.

Among its numerous features, the service offers an airport escort to assist kids in getting to their gate and early boarding so they can settle in and get to know the flight attendants. According to American, there are also kid-only lounges in the airline's hub airports.

According to the carrier's website, plans would be prepared for unaccompanied adolescents who miss their connecting flight because of a delay or cancellation. These plans would include finding another flight, lodging for the night, meals, and supervision.
