According to a passenger on American Airlines, their travel companion was moved from first class to create room for a crew member. A uniformed flight staff member is seen seated in a first-class seat as passengers exit from a regional jet in a video that Jake Williams (@jwilliams0787) posted on X.
According to the post, Williams and his girlfriend were upgraded to first class by an American Airlines gate agent, who subsequently transferred the woman back into the main cabin on the grounds that her seat was broken. The passenger asserts that the deadheading crew member was contentedly occupying the same seat a short while later.

Pilots given priority
According to American Airlines policy, when it comes to upgradeable seats, deadheading pilots are given precedence over paying passengers. The most recent agreement between the airline and the pilots union, the Allied Pilots Association, included a new policy that gave priority to deadheading pilots, and it went into effect last August. Since 2020, United, one of the other "big three" US airlines, has likewise given priority to deadheading pilots over first-class customers.
The first row on the port side of the Brazilian-built regional plane was occupied by the purportedly damaged seat on an American Airlines Embraer E170/175.
It is unclear which of American Airlines' regional partners operated the aircraft involved in the dispute, despite the fact that the post on X was directed toward the airline. American Airlines operates its American Eagle regional service in partnership with both Envoy Air and Republic Airways.
