FedEx B757 makes a difficult landing in Tennessee after experiencing landing gear failure

On October 4, 2023, late in the evening, a FedEx Boeing B757 with a failed landing gear crash-landed before skidding off the end of a runway at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) in Tennessee.

At 23:04 local time, a FedEx B757 with a failed landing gear was on its final approach when the Chattanooga Fire Department received a report.

According to reports, the aircraft pilots became aware that the landing gear was broken after takeoff and dialed 911.

The Chattanooga Police Department, the Fire Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Services were sent to the airport as soon as they received the report.

The aircraft circled before making its final descent, according to the fire department, when it "crash landed" and skidded off the end of the runway.

The Hamilton County Emergency Services videotaped the landing and posted it to social media.

The three passengers were all safe and accounted for.

The aircraft's pilot and airport staff were lauded by the Chattanooga Fire Department, who also noted that there was no fire—only smoke from the aircraft's engines.

"On Wednesday night, just after takeoff, FedEx Express Flight 1376 from Chattanooga to Memphis suffered a problem. The NTSB should be contacted with any further inquiries since our crew is safe, FedEx said in a statement sent to several US media sites.

The event is being looked into by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
