Emirates A380 aircraft aborts its landing at Christchurch Airport Due to strong winds

An Airbus A380 aircraft made a second attempt at landing from a different direction after aborting the first owing to strong winds, giving the planespotting community at Christchurch International Airport (CHC) in New Zealand a chance to witness something unusual.

On October 14, 2023, Emirates flight EK 41 was arriving from Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) when it was forced to abort its landing and attempt it again from a different direction due to severe winds.

Social media users have posted video of planespotters' obtained footage of the superjumbo airplane making an unsteady descent. The A380 can be seen revving its engines and climbing once as it approaches the runway.

The airplane had to land from a different direction because of the tiny change in the crosswind, according to WeatherWatch NZ in New Zealand. When touching down, the nose of the airplane should point as much towards the wind's direction as feasible.

The two landing attempts for the A380 were visible on the flight path on either side of CHC airport.

Prior to the A380, the group of planespotters had seen two other aircraft cancel owing to the severe winds, a local planespotter told NZ media outlet 1News.

Two and a half hours later, the A380 was able to complete a successful second landing attempt, which was also captured on camera.
