The Bell 412 helicopter crashed on October 12, 2023, near the town of Topia, Durango.
An official statement later released by the Mexican Secretariat of National Defence states that the event happened when the helicopter refueled at the Air Operations Base in San José del Llano, Sinaloa, on its way to Canelas, Durango.
The accident happened close to El Ventoso. All three occupants—two pilots and one soldier—died in the crash.
Then, two Black Hawk helicopters carrying personnel from Military Base 10 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, were sent to the crash scene.
The helicopter allegedly collided with a power line, according to local news websites, but this has not been verified.
The Bell 412 is a twin-engine utility helicopter that is frequently used for military, civilian, and search and rescue missions. It is a member of the UH-1 Iroquois-based Bell Huey helicopter family. Ten Bell 412 helicopters are currently in service with the Mexican Air Force.
