After experiencing engine failure, a Flybondi Boeing 737 diverts to Buenos Aires Ezeiza Airport.

Flybondi flight FO5238 left Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP) on Thursday with a destination of San Carlos de Bariloche but ended up in Ezeiza, giving passengers a surprise excursion to the opposite side of the country's capital, Buenos Aires.

The flight took off without a hitch from runway 31 at Aeroparues. The engine malfunctioned as the plane ascended, forcing the pilots to announce an emergency landing at just 3,000 feet.

The Boeing 737-8000 safely landed on runway 11 at Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) after only 30 minutes of flight.

The details

Flybondi FO5238, according to Flightradar24.com, was scheduled to leave Buenos Aires Aeroparque on October 5 at 05:30 for the trip to San Carlos de Bariloche, which is situated at the foot of the Andes in the renowned Patagonia region. The flight's scheduled arrival time was 07:45, and its flying time was slightly over two hours.

The plane took off from AEP at 05:09, and after reporting engine trouble, it touched down at EZE at 05:40, exactly 31 minutes after takeoff.

The Boeing 737-800 NG / MAX at the center of the drama, LV-KHO, has remained on the EZE apron ever since the event, and the Junta de Seguridad en el Transporte (JST), a government agency, is looking into it.

The plane took off for the first time on January 25th, 2010, and flew to Garuda Indonesia, and spent 13 years (with the registration PK-GMK) before being transferred to Argentina on January 22nd of this year. The aircraft was returned to its lessor during its time with Garuda over the height of the pandemic, according to information acquired from Airfleets, before finding a new home with Flybondi.

substitute aircraft

A replacement service that eventually left from Ezeria at 12:25 and arrived at Baloroches Teniente Luis Candelaria Airport (BRC) at 14:26, over seven hours after its initial arrival time, was rebooked for passengers wanting to reach their intended destination in the Andes.

Prior to beginning service for Flybondi in July 2021, LV-KAH, the replacement aircraft, a Boeing 737-8, had a long list of prior operators, including XL Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, Sunwing, and TUI.

Flight FO5239 to return

The return service from Bariloche FO5239 ultimately took off at 15:22, instead of its initial planned departure of 08:25, and landed down at Aeroparque Internacional Jorge Newbery at 17:10, instead of 10:30 that morning. This was due to the delayed arrival of the inbound flight. The service had a one-hour and 48-minute flight time.
