Josue Gonzalez and Labarrius Williams, who were working at Miami International Airport, were arrested in July 2023 after surveillance footage showed them taking items from the X-ray trays passengers use during security checks. Charges against a third agent, Elizabeth Fuster, were eventually dropped.
The shocking video, shared by the Florida State Attorney's Office, seems to show Gonzalez, Williams, and Fuster going through passengers' bags and taking items before the bags go through the CT scanner. The clip has been making the rounds on social media, thanks to shares by media outlets and regular folks alike.
Turns out, an investigation showed the agents were kind of working together to distract people while they were being screened, so they could grab some extra cash from their bags. The whole thing came to light when airport authorities got suspicious and called in a detective to look into a string of thefts happening at Checkpoint E.
Reports from various U.S. media outlets indicate that both Gonzalez and Fuster actually confessed in writing when they were arrested, while Williams stayed mum. NBC Miami noted that the charges against Fuster were later dropped. Gonzalez got somewhat lucky too— he was accepted into a state program that could eventually see his charges dismissed if he completed it.
#Miami voted #1 city where #TSA agents steal most from passengers.
