Christine Arimas and her daughter Kristina had quite an unsettling experience on an Etihad Airways flight, and they're not letting it go. They hopped on a plane from Geneva to Abu Dhabi on July 25, 2022, expecting a smooth journey. However, two hours into the trip, Christine found herself suddenly yanked from her seat by a male passenger.
This man, who appeared to have had one too many drinks, started hurling racial insults at Christine. Can you imagine? The whole plane was buzzing, with fellow passengers and cabin crew rushing to the scene. A brave cabin crew member managed to separate the man from Christine, coming to her aid.
Now, here's where it gets even more upsetting. Kristina had been catching some zzz's, but the ruckus woke her up. Seeing her mom in such a state really shook her to the core.
You'd think the airline would've immediately jumped in to ensure their safety, right? Instead, they simply shifted the unruly passenger to another seat, without any restraints. And here's the kicker: they kept serving him drinks throughout the flight.
When the plane touched down in Abu Dhabi, Christine felt that Etihad turned a blind eye, not even bothering to check on them. They wouldn’t even share the intoxicated guy's name.
Frustrated and seeking justice, they've taken their grievance to the Makati Regional Court back home in the Philippines. The Arimases feel that Etihad let them down big time, accusing the airline of ignoring the proper way to deal with such incidents. They're demanding a hefty PH22 million (that's about $388,000) for the ordeal they went through.
Now, the ball's in Etihad's court. They've got 30 days to respond. We'll have to wait and see what comes of it.
