French and Canadian aircraft collided at the Guam air base due to human error.

I've got some updates about that airplane mishap in Guam that involved a Canadian and a French military aircraft. It turns out, human error might be at the root of it all.

Remember when I told you about that crash at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam involving a Canadian CC150 Polaris and a French A400M transport plane? Well, Canada's Ministry of Defense released some new info on September 7, 2023.

Here's the lowdown:

On July 21, 2023, while both planes were on the tarmac, they ended up colliding. The Canadian plane, an Airbus CC-150 Polaris with the fancy label "15003", was there for Exercise Mobility Guardian 2023 – that big drill that took place from July 5 to 21. Both the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the French Air and Space Force (AAE) were a part of it.

So, this CC150 Polaris – from the 8th Wing in Trenton, Ontario – landed in Guam at the end of this exercise. Its mission? Pick up equipment and folks. They planned to head out the next day. But here's a twist: after they landed, the Canadian team left the plane without those blocky things called chocks and took off for some well-deserved rest.

Fast forward to the next morning, July 22, around 10:30 AM local time. For some odd reason, the Polaris started moving backward on its own, making a little swerve to the left. Before anyone knew it, BAM! Its tail collided with the tail of the French A400M.

While both planes took a good hit, the silver lining is that no one got hurt.

So, the report from September 7 didn't find any tech problems with the Canadian plane. Now, they're diving deep into how folks communicate and other human elements that might've played a part in this unexpected mix-up.

Right now? Both planes are still in Guam, waiting on repairs and for the investigation to wrap up.
