An Emirates Airbus A380 had to make an unexpected pit stop at Munich Airport due to a medical emergency on board

The plane was flying from Dubai to London-Gatwick when the crew realized someone needed urgent medical attention. So, they decided to head for Munich as the closest and safest option.

They touched down at 12:49 pm local time, according to the tracking info on flightradar24.com. Just so you know, the crew switched their transponder code to 7700 before landing, which is the universal sign for "hey, we've got an emergency here."

A spokesperson from Emirates confirmed that the detour was all about a passenger's medical issue. After landing in Munich, medical teams rushed to give the affected passengers the care they needed. So, that passenger stayed behind in Munich for treatment.

The plane didn't stick around for too long; it resumed its flight to London-Gatwick. It left Munich at 3:08 pm local time and is expected to land in London at around 3:26 pm, a bit later than its usual daily arrival time of 12:35 pm.

By the way, this isn't the only Emirates flight that goes to London-Gatwick. They also have flights EK9 and EK11 serving that route. And if you're headed to other London airports, they've got you covered there too with flights to Heathrow and Stansted.

And here's a little trivia for you: the Airbus A380 that made the unscheduled stop is registered as A6-EOZ and joined Emirates' fleet back in May 2016. It's a pretty big bird with 519 seats: 14 in first class, 76 in business, and a whopping 429 in economy.
