Aer Lingus Airbus A321neo is still stuck in Washington for nearly a week

this plane, coming from Dublin, had a bit of a hiccup when landing at Washington Dulles International Airport last Wednesday, August 30th. The flight had already left Dublin about 19 minutes late at 12:54, but it seemed like the crew was on track to make up the delay. Everything was looking smooth until about four minutes before they were due to land. The plane dipped to a low of 450 feet and then shot back up. Imagine being on that flight!

They had to circle back, climb to 3,000 feet, and try landing again on runway 01R. Thankfully, the second time around was a charm, and everyone reached Dulles just a tad late, only 12 minutes off their original schedule.

Now, here's where things get even more interesting. Rumor has it, according to the Aviation Herald, that the first landing attempt was a "false landing" and the plane might have suffered a tail strike. There's a picture floating around that shows some scuffs on the tail of an Aer Lingus plane, but it hasn't been confirmed if it's legit yet.

So, what's the aftermath of all this? The poor plane's been parked at the airport since. Its return trip to Dublin that was set for 17:10? Canceled. But don't worry, a couple of other A321neos have taken over the route for now.

I also heard that this particular Airbus first took to the skies on February 24th, 2020, and was handed over just three days later.

It's designed to carry 168 people in economy and another 16 in business class. Even though it's technically owned by the Air Lease Corporation, it's been flying the friendly skies with Aer Lingus from the get-go.
