A Delta Airlines Boeing 767 had quite the day when it was leaving Prague, Czech Republic, for New York City. Just picture this: the plane starts to take off and suddenly there's smoke and loud noises coming from one of the engines!
Talk about fast thinking—the flight crew didn't waste any time. They turned off the troubled engine and made a U-turn back to the airport for an emergency landing. Someone even got the whole thing on video! It's pretty crazy seeing the smoke billowing from one of the engines during takeoff.
Fun fact: The plane is no spring chicken; it's been around since 1990. The engine that had the hiccup is a Pratt & Whitney PW4060, in case you're into that sort of thing. For now, it's not going anywhere; it's grounded in Prague.
And get this: Delta had another incident with the same type of plane a couple of months ago. That one got caught in a hailstorm over Italy and had to be diverted to Rome. It was grounded for more than two weeks!
Delta's got a big fleet—over 900 planes—and this model, the Boeing 767-300ER, is actually on the list to be retired soon. They're planning on phasing it out by 2025.
