14 people, all onboard an Embraer EMB-110P1 Bandeirante, tragically lost their lives during a crash while trying to land

From what I gather, the Amazonas Government reported that the plane had 12 passengers and a crew of two when they faced some challenging conditions trying to land at Barcelos Airport. Can you believe they were just there to enjoy some sport fishing?

The aircraft, with the registration PT-SOG and under the ownership of Manaus Aerotaxi, made its landing attempt on a particularly rainy day, this past Saturday, with visibility being quite poor.

Although we don't have the complete picture yet, there's talk that the aircraft might've run out of landing space. Colonel Vinícius Almeida from the Amazonas Public Security office put it this way, “The plane touched down but just didn’t have the runway it needed to come to a stop.”

Adding to the sorrow, it was reported by G1, a Brazilian news outlet, that two planes decided not to land at the airport shortly before this tragic event took place.

The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, shared his condolences, saying, “The pain of losing 12 passengers and two crew members in such a terrible accident is just overwhelming. We're doing all we can to support the families during this dark time. My heart goes out to them.”

In terms of the next steps, it seems like a team from the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents, affiliated with the Brazilian Air Force, will be visiting the crash site first thing tomorrow. Colonel Almeida mentioned, “By around 5 in the morning, a plane from the Air Force will be setting off from Manaus with teams ready to retrieve the bodies and ensure all necessary procedures are handled respectfully and swiftly.”
