Wizz Air commemorates 65 million passengers to Luton
This week, the airline marked the occasion more than six years after establishing its base at London Luton Airport (LTN). On a Wizz flight from Luton to Istanbul, which the airline started operating in March of this year, the 65 million passengers boarded.
Wizz Air UK's Corporate Communications Manager, Zsuzsa Trubek, stated:
"It’s a big day for Wizz Air as we celebrate 65 million passengers at London Luton Airport. What we can offer travelers is an exciting mix of popular destinations, as well as off-the-beaten-track locations to explore. As we go into the summer holiday season, we are excited to welcome even more customers traveling for their holidays or visiting family and friends. The UK is an important market for us, and London remains a key focus for investment."
Over the past few years, Wizz has been in charge of Luton during a period of tremendous expansion. The airline celebrated serving 15 million passengers at Luton in October 2021, which means it transported over 50 million people to and from the airport in less than two years. The airline carried 5.3 million more passengers in June than in the same month last year, a 23% rise.

The airline flew there for more than 13 years before establishing a base there in June 2017. With around 600 employees and 58 destinations served, it is now the largest airline in Luton. The most popular routes from LTN are to Bucharest (OTP), Budapest (BUD), and Warsaw (WAW). and Tirana (TIA).
Jonathan Rayner, the airport's chief commercial officer, added,
"The success of Wizz Air at London Luton Airport is testament to our strong partnership. Since that first flight in 2004, both Wizz and LLA have made huge advances, achieving impressive growth in both passenger numbers and the choice of destinations."
