This happened on August 28, 2023. The chopper, which belonged to Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue, apparently had some engine trouble just after lifting off from Pompano Beach Airport. Imagine this, it crashed into an apartment complex not too far from the airport, just about half a mile away.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office shared that around 8:46 in the morning, they got a distress call about the chopper being in trouble near Pompano Beach Airpark. Local heroes from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue were quick to the scene and managed to rush two people to the hospital.
Sadly, one person from the helicopter and another person on the ground didn't make it. Two other brave souls from the rescue team and a couple of locals got some injuries, but thankfully, they're expected to be okay.
There's a video on social media that's really hard to watch. It shows the helicopter in flames, and then something goes wrong with its tail. You can see it spiraling before the crash. My heart goes out to everyone affected. Oh man, this is heartbreaking to hear. A rescue helicopter went down near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and two people lost their lives. It's tragic.
