On August 17, 2023, an IndiGo pilot scheduled to operate a flight from Nagpur’s Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG) to Pune Airport (PNQ) collapsed and died at the airport boarding gate.
An IndiGo pilot who was supposed to fly from Nagpur's Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG) to Pune Airport (PNQ) on August 17, 2023, collapsed and passed away at the airport boarding gate.
The 40-year-old pilot was treated by medical personnel right afterward, received CPR, and was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced d£ad.
“We are saddened at the passing of one of our pilots in Nagpur. He took unwell at Nagpur airport and was rushed to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” an IndiGo spokesperson said, as reported by Hindustan Times
According to India Today, the pilot, Manoj Balasubramani, was "well-rested" before taking off, as required by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) regulations.
Balasubramani had taken 27 hours of rest since his previous trip, according to the DGCA, and this was his first flight of the day when he flew from Nagpur to Pune.

Balasubramani reportedly experienced a "sudden cardiac arrest" before he passed on.
Concerns about the risks of pilot tiredness are developing throughout the pilot and flight crew communities. Balasubramani is the third pilot to pass away while flying in less than a week
