Emirates involved in a flag controversy after displaying the North Korean flag at the Cabin Crew Graduation Ceremony For South Korean Flight Attendant

Emirates has found itself in the middle of another flag controversy after the Dubai-based airline showoff the flag of North Korea during a cabin crew graduation ceremony while a flight attendant from South Korea was receiving her crew diploma.

A flight attendant from South Korea was getting her crew diploma when the North Korean flag was displayed by Dubai-based Emirates, which has now found itself at the center of yet another flag controversy.

The embarrassing episode was brought to light by the well-known cabin crew Facebook page 'A Fly Guy's Cabin Crew Lounge,' which uploaded a leaked image of newly graduated Emirates cabin crew lining up in front of a photograph of the North Korean flag.

While Emirates employs cabin crew from all over the world, it doesn't fly to North Korea, nor does it send recruiters there.

On the other hand, it would seem that someone accidentally chose the wrong flag for the graduation ceremony. This person may have done so after searching for a Korean flag on Google without specifying whether they meant the North or the South Korean flag.

This isn't the first time emirate is facing a situation like this for displaying another country's flag. Country flag pins were once a standard component of the airline's cabin crew uniform, allowing flight attendants to proudly display their origins.

Emirates cabin crew members come from 140 different countries, however, a few years ago, Chinese officials learned that Taiwanese cabin crew members were sporting the "white sun in a blue sky" flag of the Republic of China.

Because it represents Taiwan's autonomous government, the flag is divisive. However, the People's Republic of China has long claimed Taiwan, and Beijing routinely criticizes groups and countries that back Taiwan's claims of independence or make suggestions that the island is separate from the rest of China.

Because Taiwanese-born flight attendants were sporting the "white sun in a blue sky, and a wholly red earth" flag on their lapels, Chinese officials threatened Emirates with sanctions.

Because of this, Emirates initially requested that its Taiwanese cabin crew members wear the flag of the People's Republic of China. However, after some of the staff members disapproved the airline opted to simply stop providing the flag pins.
