Emirates Airbus A380 reportedly collides with drone upon landing in Nice

An Emirates Airbus A380 allegedly struck a drone upon landing at Nice Cote d’Azur Airport (NCE).

A drone was reportedly struck by an Emirates Airbus A380 as it touched down at Nice Cote d'Azur Airport (NCE).

The Airbus A380, registered as A6-EOM, reportedly hit "a large drone" while landing at NCE on August 18, 2023, according to a report by the Aviation Safety Network. The leading-edge slats of the double-decker were damaged, and the airline would have to replace them at the airport on August 20, 2023, according to the report.

Flightradar24.com shows that Emirates flight EK78 from NCE to Dubai International Airport (DXB) was canceled on August 18, 2023, however, the aircraft has remained in place since touching down at the French airport. The next day, the flight from Emirates to DXB was handled by an additional Airbus A380 with the registration A6-EOB.

NCE canceled the flight to Dubai due to technical issues, a spokesperson for the NCE wrote in an email to AeroTime.

According to information from flightradar24.com, A6-EOM is still at NCE as of the time of publication and has no planned flights out of the airport.

Three different Emirates Airbus A380s, including A6-EOB, A6-EEC, and A6-EEV, have entered NCE on flight EK77 since August 19, 2023.

According to information from ch-aviation.com, Airbus delivered A6-EOM in August 2015, shortly after the aircraft had its first flight on March 10, 2015.

Since then, it has completed 3,061 flight cycles and 29,829 flight hours (FH). The aircraft was stored from March 2020 to May 2021; according to ch-aviation.com records, there were no FHs or FCs during that time, and activity in March 2020 was far lower than it had been the month before. Between June 2022 and October 2022, the same phenomenon may be seen.

For enquiry AeroTime contacted Emirates, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses pour la sécurité de l'aviation civile, BEA).
