On a flight from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Doha's Hamad International Airport (DOH), on which he was a passenger, a Qatar Airways off-duty pilot passed away.

On August 16, 2023, at 03:41 local time, flight QR 579 departed Delhi. The medical emergency caused the Airbus A350 to divert to Dubai International Airport (DXB) 30 minutes prior to landing.

The 51-year-old pilot is believed to have become gravely ill during the flight, and despite prompt intervention and medical care, he was unable to be revived.

Before going on to Doha, the aircraft spent almost an hour taxiing around the DXB airport.

As reported by The Times of India, the pilot flew SpiceJet's first flight on May 23, 2005, from DEL Airport to Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD), which was operated by Allegiance Air.

He worked with SpiceJet for 17 years before moving to Qatar Airways in 2022.

In fact, this is the third instance of a pilot passing away in less than a week. A LATAM pilot lost his life on a flight from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Santiago de Chile Airport (SCL) on August 14, 2023.

An IndiGo pilot passed away at the boarding gate on August 17, 2023, just before flying to Nagpur.
