With a fleet of 35 aircraft until its demise in October 2017, the venerable Monarch Airline was a significant player in the British leisure travel market. A consortium of investors is now determined to bring the airline back to life.
Daniel Ellingham, chairman of Monarch's board, reportedly stated in an interview with Airways Magazine that the airline is getting ready to reopen after obtaining funds from American and European investors.
Initially a charter airline, the original Monarch gradually expanded into scheduled paths, primarily linking the UK to leisure destinations in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean.
According to information from Airways Magazine, Monarch's next incarnation may aim to fly a fleet of about 15 Airbus A320 family aircraft.
Although the new airline has not yet submitted an AOC, it already has a one-page website with contact information and is present on relevant social media networks.
