A passenger at Bangkok’s Mueang Airport (DMK) has had her leg amputated by medical emergency staff after it became stuck inside a moving walkway.
On June 29, 2023, at 8:27 am, a bizarre accident involved a female passenger who was in the south corridor of the airport, between Gates 4 and 5 of the second domestic terminal.
The traveler, according to the Bangkok Post, stumbled over her bag as she prepared to board a plane for the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. As a result, her leg became stuck.
The woman's leg appears to have become stuck in the space where the moving walkway meets the pathway in published photos.
The woman's left leg was amputated just above the knee, according to airport officials, and she was then taken urgently to the neighboring Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital in the Sai Mai area. She was then sent to Bumrungrad Hospital, nevertheless.
“On behalf of the Don Mueang International Airport, I’d like to express my deepest condolences regarding the accident,’ Don Mueang airport director Karun Thanakuljeerapat said during a news conference. “I’d like to insist that we will ensure that no such accident will happen again.”
Karun Thanakuljeerapat added that the airport would cover the passenger's medical expenses in addition to providing additional compensation.
