Near the seaside city of Yeisk, a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft fell into the Sea of Azov.
Local authorities verified that the pilot was successfully rescused from the sea after he was able to successfully escape from the aircraft. His status is unknown.
The incident took place in the Krasnodar Territory off the coast of Yeisk, a city that spans along the Sea of Azov.
A parachute is seen descending over the water close to the coast in a video that is becoming viral on social media. The parachute then crashes into the water with a big splash.
“At about 15:00, information was received that a Su-25 plane crashed near the coast. There were no casualties or damage as a result of the incident,” the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory reported in a statement. “According to available information, the pilot ejected and was promptly evacuated by rescuers. Specialists of the Ministry of Defense and special services are working on the spot to establish the causes of the plane crash.”

According to the Russian news agency TASS, the test flight jet crashed after likely undergoing maintenance. The Southern Military District suggested that an engine problem would be to blame.
The single-seat, twin-engine, close-air support Sukhoi Su-25, also referred to by its NATO reporting name "Frogfoot," is built for ground attack missions. Since the late 1970s, it has been used by the Russian Air Force.
