A suspected drug smuggler carrying three kilograms of cocaine through Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) shot at a customs agent last week after reportedly being selected to be searched more thoroughly. Another agent was injured during the incident but allegedly prevented a more serious outcome.
A customs officer was shot last week after a suspected drug smuggler who was carrying three kilograms of cocaine through Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) was apparently chosen to undergo a more thorough check. Although one agent was hurt, it is claimed that they saved the situation from becoming more serious.
The suspect, a woman from Peru, was detained and is currently the subject of an investigation. The event did not interfere with any flights that were leaving or coming in.
Details of the incident
According to the French magazine Valeurs Actuelles, the incident took place on July 27 at Terminal 2E at CDG. According to prosecutors, when things started to become violent, the suspect was told to submit to a search. While in customs detention and reportedly being escorted to the bathroom by a customs officer, the woman took possession of the officer's weapon and shot the officer in the waist.
The woman initially meant to shoot at the officer's chest area, but a second cop got in the way and had her shoot lower than she had intended, hitting the other officer in the groin. According to a source familiar with the situation who talked to Valeurs Actuelle, the second police officer was hurt, but not by the bullet.
“The Peruvian aimed for the chest, but the colleague had the reflex to tap on the weapon to lower the barrel. A second colleague was wounded in the knee, not by bullet, while disarming the offender.“
