Irish Airline Ryanair and United States aircraft maker Boeing are rumored to be on the cusp of sealing a huge deal for the low-cost carrier to purchase more planes.
Rumor has it that a major agreement between the American aircraft maker Boeing and the Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will allow the latter to purchase more aircraft.
Two sources with knowledge of the current situation reportedly told Reuters that the purchase is for more than a hundred Boeing 737 MAX 10 jets.
Later, Bloomberg reported that the amount being discussed is for the purchase of approximately 150 737 MAX aircraft with the option to purchase a further 30 aircraft.
It was announced in March 2023 that negotiations between Boeing and Ryanair had resumed after initially breaking down over costs for the aircraft 18 months earlier.
“We are back talking to them, which I think is an indication there is some movement on pricing […] I think there is a deal to be done,” O’Leary said.
O’Leary said that conversations between the carrier and plane manufacturer are in the “early stages”.
Ryanair and Boeing agreed on the purchase of 75 brand-new 737 MAX 8 aircraft in December 2020, bringing the airline's total number of firm orders at the time from 135 to 210.
Ryanair was able to negotiate a favorable price for the agreement, which was reached as the aviation sector was still severely affected by the pandemic.
One of Boeing's biggest and most important customers in the sector is Ryanair.
