Emirates SkyCargo Introduces New Healthcare-Focused Freight Services

Emirates is expanding its elite pharmaceutical freight solutions.

Emirates is growing its top-notch pharmaceutical freight services.

Two new services have been introduced by Emirates SkyCargo as part of its "Life Sciences and Healthcare" product line for the international healthcare industry.

Emirates expands tailor-made freight services

The Dubai-based carrier's freight division, Emirates SkyCargo, has introduced two specialized services as part of its industry-leading Life Sciences and Healthcare portfolio: Emirates Vital (AXT) and Emirates Medical Devices (AXM).

Divisional Senior Vice President and Emirates SkyCargo Nabil Sultan said,

"Our Pharma business is already a market leader, and each week we move around 2 million kilograms of pharmaceutical cargo across the globe. Since 2015, we’ve invested over $200m to build our capabilities, and now we have very strong expertise and insights into the pharma and broader life sciences space."

The "white-glove" freight service Emirates Vital claims to provide includes "transporting clinical trials, human organs, and tissues, cell and gene therapy," with accelerated transit times and designated vans on the ramp for connecting flights.

Sultan added,

"By listening to our customers, we saw an opportunity to support the global health industry’s advances in personalized patient treatments and meet the growing need for priority services in air cargo logistics to move sensitive materials and equipment – for instance, those used in the research of sophisticated therapies like gene editing and cell therapy."

This will be the highest priority product level offered by Emirates SkyCargo and incorporates bulk hold storage for quicker unloading as well as control tower surveillance.

Emirates Medical Devices

The transportation of medical equipment is the only focus of Emirates Medical Devices. It will provide temperature and non-temperature management and can handle the whole range of medical equipment, big or little, including ventilators, MRI machines, and test kits.

The service will adhere to the European Medical Device Regulations (MDR) as well as the Medical Device Regulations and Good Distribution Practices (GDP), a set of minimal requirements governing the distribution of medical devices across the supply chain.

About Emirates SkyCargo

The two services will complement Emirates SkyCargo's current trio of pharmaceutical freight options—Emirates Pharma, Pharma Plus, and Pharma Active—the latter of which provides the highest level of security and management. The airline hinted at future developments to its growing freight product line.

Along with its fleet of 11 specialized Boeing 777 freighters and two recently delivered Boeing 747Fs, Emirates' cargo capacity consists of belly space in the holds of passenger aircraft. With over 150 destinations currently served across six continents, it claims that because of its special global positioning, it can "reach 2.5 billion people within 4 hours of flight."
